4/27
15 miles (94 to 109 warner springs)
Got up early and hiked into town by 2. There's a community center in this very small town that caters towards pct hikers. First things first, We ate double ham/cheese burgers then showered for the first time in 8 days. We spent the night there To rest up, we feel pretty good but don't want to push too hard at the beginning of the hike and get overuse injuries.  The next day we got our first resupply from the post office and shipped back unused items in our packs. The lighter the are, the more better we feel.

4/28
7 miles (109 to 116)
Hiked out of warner springs around 4:30. It's hot in the middle of the day so I think we are going to try to hike early in the day and late in the day.

4/29
13 miles (116 to 129)
Started hiking at 7.  Arrived at mikes at 11:30.  Mike owns a House in the middle of nowhere that takes hikers in and provides water, shade and hamburgers! We didn't actually meet mike but we appreciate his kindness. There was a group if about 15 of us there all enjoying the shade and each other's company. We left around 4, clay felt crappy so we only hiked two or three miles more and camped on a beautiful ridge.

4/30
22 miles! (129 to 151)
Got up before 6. Trying to get in the habit of getting hiking as early as possible to get in some miles before it gets too hot. It did get hot but powered by breakfast, second breakfast, audiobooks and music we made it 15 miles before hiding during the heat of the day. We took a break in the shadow of a boulder for a good chunk if the afternoon, laying in the shade, eating and reading. The goal is to get close to the next road so we can eat breakfast at the paradise cafe tomorrow morning.

5/1
18.5 miles (11 pct miles, 151 to 162. 2 miles to cafe and back. 5.5 miles on alternate route)
We got up early and walked to paradise valley cafe, 1 mile off the trail. It's a very hiker friendly restaurant and we found four of our trail friends sleeping on the porch. We washed up in the bathroom, a delight, ate massive breakfasts, and drank cups of coffee. Before heading out we loaded up with 7 liters of water each for the waterless stretch ahead. The trail is closed at mile 162 due to a wildfire two summers ago, one that clay actually worked on while he was in a fire crew. We didn't realize at the time, but pretty much everyone hitches around this section. With packs loaded heavy with water and maps of an alternate route in hand, we continued walking. We haven't seen another person since. The terrain was tougher today, steep ups and downs with jagged rocks rather than the flat dirt trails we have been on. We walked gingerly on our blistering feet as we ascended then quickly descended 3000 feet. We are camping under the stars with hopes of making it to the post office tomorrow in idyllwild to pick up our resupply box. If we don't make it in time, we will have to take a day off waiting till it's open Monday, aw shucks.
