August 29

8/29
14 miles (1998, hwy 20 to 2012, rock pile lake in the mount Jefferson wilderness)
We spent last night at Nancy's house in sisters. We chatted on the deck, ate out at a brewery, and sat in the hot tub. We slept in till 8, had the most delicious pancakes I've ever had and slowly got ready to get back to the trail.
The skies had cleared of smoke and we could see the mountains were under a thick layer of clouds. When Mary, Ryan and Nancy heard how close we were to the 2000 mile mark, they decided to hike to it with us. It's so nice having company on the trail! The trail wound uphill through a large burn area, it was super windy and chilly. We took a bunch of pictures and said our goodbyes. Clay and I were alone in the forest again, watching people we love walking away (and of course dahlia!). This time though we had the satisfaction of knowing that we are only 650 miles from the finish, a surprisingly comforting thought. We will see you again soon!
