September 3

9/3
26 miles (2109 to mile 9.8 of the eagle falls alternate route)
It was cold this morning. We stayed tucked in our sleeping bags much later than usual. It had rained hard yesterday so we didn't stop and collect water before camping as we usually do because it was carrying a lot of sediment. We packed up our wet tent, put on wet clothes, socks, and shoes and headed out into the damp. We stopped at the next creek to make coffee and eat breakfast in the rain. Then mid morning, something beautiful happened, the clouds lifted and thinned and we saw the sun! We stopped and exploded our packs laying out all our gear to dry. It's so nice to be dry. The weather held for the rest of the day. We hiked an alternate route towards cascade locks, a cool trail in the eagle creek gorge, reminds me a lot of Ithaca. Tomorrow, Washington!
