September 30- Bellingham to Ebey Fort State Park

9/30
We spent yesterday in bellingham getting ready for more biking. Clays mom sorted through all our gear and had it shipped up to northern Washington. Big thanks! We assembled bikes, bought necessary gear and ate delicious food. We sent our hiking gear back and got ready to hit the road.
Here's the plan. Clays sister gets married in Denver on October 10th. We have plane tickets from Portland to Denver on the 6th. We have 6 days to get ourselves to Portland.
Today we biked 60 miles from bellingham to ebey fort state park. The beginning of the route was lovely. We rode along the bay and through pleasant farms.  we were giddy. Then we saw some crappy parts if Washington. In order to avoid biking anywhere near Seattle we are heading across the bay and taking a ferry to port Townsend. We were really excited and the route crossing from island to island looked great. Those islands aren't all great. They have heavy traffic and thick exhaust fumes. I am stil excited for the ferry tomorrow morning.

  1. Next time you are in Washington, check out the San Juan Islands. Beautiful, minimal traffic and great cycling. Ben and I had an enjoyable week in early July. Riding the ferry is a fun and free once you leave Anacortes. I'm looks forward to following your progress down the coast. I wish I was out there. If you do northern CA the Lost Coast is beautiful but difficult with the climbing especially if you do the dirt route. Have FUN!
