August 1. Resupply in Castella

8/1
22 miles (1493 to 1515, campsite next to dry stream bed)
When it started sprinkling at 4:30 this morning we decided to get up. It was warm and I wasn't sleeping great. Adding a rain fly to the mix wouldn't help, besides clay's always looking for a reason to get me up earlier. We sat in the dark eating breakfast then started walking the 14ish miles into Castella.
Turns out Castella is just a gas station, post office, and campground. We had mailed our package to the gas station store, something I wish we did more as stores have better hours than the post office. We ate delicious gas station burritos and got two more to take for dinner. They really were good. We also had a tube of Pringles, 3 drinks, a pint of ice cream, and a plum. We were happy, hot, and full, eating our gas station food under the shade tree sandwiched between the gas pumps and the interstate looking and smelling like bums.
We then showered as we passed through the state park on the way back to the trail. We washed our clothes in the shower and put them back on. It was 99 degrees out when we headed back into the trail at 3.
